Joseph and Me

Yesterday I was doing my Bible study and Joseph crawled in the room. I picked him up and sat him on the bed next to me.
"Do you want to sit next to Mommy?", I asked.
A moment later he stood up next to me and reached out his hands so I would pick him up and put him on my lap.
How sweet, I thought, that he was not content to be next to me, he wanted to be as close as he could.
Throughout the day Joseph is playing and exploring all over the house. But every once in a while I will feel these chubby little hands on my legs and see these beckoning, or sometimes desperate, little eyes looking up at me.
"Are you hungry, buddy? Do you need your diaper changed or do you just need a little Mommy time?", I'll ask.

What a great picture of how we should be with God.  First of all, we should want to be as close to Him as we can be, not just content to sit next to Him, but to get as close as we can on His lap, held by His Almighty arms. And then, I know I have a tendency to do my quiet time in the morning, check God off my list, and go on with the rest of my day.  I need to be more like Joseph.  If I'm happy, I need to praise or thank Him. If I am sad or frustrated, I need to pour out my heart to Him.  And sometimes I am hungry, and I need to sit at the table of His word and find strength and spiritual nourishment.
